There’s a certain energy that takes over Pensacola during Foo Foo Festival. Music spills out of venues, people are moving from one event to the next, and downtown stays busy late into the night. This year, Night Moves is working to keep that movement going.

For its fourth year as part of Foo Foo Festival, the Pensacola-based nonprofit is expanding Night Moves Music Fest from a single-day music festival into a multi-day, citywide experience running October 30 through November 8. The grant-funded programming will bring an eclectic lineup of artists to venues across Pensacola, giving music fans the chance to build their own festival experience—and give visitors more reasons to stick around. “This year is slightly different,” explains Robert Godspeed, founder of Night Moves. “It’s still a music festival, just in a different way than years’ past.”

The concept is less about concentrating everything in one place and more about letting the festival move throughout the city. Shows will take place at multiple venues, including downtown locations and Laguna’s Beach Bar, with individual tickets available for each performance. Some events will happen earlier, others later, allowing fans to catch different shows throughout the week while experiencing more of what Pensacola has to offer. “We’re excited to highlight all of Pensacola rather than just one venue,” Godspeed says.

The music will cover plenty of ground, too. Night Moves is known for its indie and alternative roots, but this year’s lineup stretches well beyond those boundaries. Festivalgoers can expect neo-soul and blues, folk punk, EDM, post-punk, and plenty in between. That eclecticism is intentional. “We want to bring different audiences into the fold and into Pensacola,” Godspeed adds.

Among the artists on this year’s lineup is Neal Francis, the New York-based musician whose blend of neo-soul, blues, and groove brings a different flavor to the annual festival. EDM fans can catch Side Quest, while folk-punk group AJJ will close out the weekend at The Handlebar.

Halloween gets its own dose of dance floor energy with California post-punk group Nuovo Testamento headlining a show at The Handlebar. Other performances throughout the week will activate venues including Odd Colony Brewing Co. and Betty’s, adding even more stops to the Night Moves circuit. Then on November 7, Night Moves will bring back the spirit of its traditional single-day festival with a block-party style event near The Handlebar, creating a more centralized gathering while still giving people the opportunity to move throughout downtown. “This format really creates cohesion with other Foo Foo Festival events, and that was a big reason we decided to do it this way this year,” Godspeed says. “We’re hoping others are as excited as we are and maybe they’ll take an opportunity to check out something they wouldn’t have seen otherwise.”
