Grease is the word at Foo Foo Festival this year thanks to the Choral Society of Pensacola
The Choral Society of Pensacola is hopelessly devoted to bringing Pensacola a fun and memorable event at Foo Foo Festival each year, and this year’s event is sure to be the one that you want: Born to Hand Jive: A Grease Sing-Along. Artistic Director Peter Steenblik sat down with us to share all of the details about the can’t miss sing along that is sure to be a toe-tapping, electrifying kind of night.
Q: A singalong sounds like such a fun event—especially with the focus being Grease. Tell us about what led to such a different type of event for the Foo Foo Festival.
A: The mission of the Choral Society is to engage and enrich our community through a variety of dynamic choral experiences. Not all of those need to be a concert with everyone in tuxedos and an orchestra. So we thought what could we do that would fulfill the mission in a fun and different way? We landed on this, which we are expecting to be an incredibly fun event because Grease is the ultimate classical movie musical!
Q: Tell us about what patrons should expect with the sing along.
A: It will be very interactive. Attendees will get a bag of party favors that correspond to different parts of the movie. It will be a fun time of enjoying the movie and, of course, sing along to all of the classic hits.
Q: While that sounds like a fun event, the fun really begins well before the movie does, right?
A: Yes, we’re going to be blocking off Palafox Street in front of the Rex Theatre and holding Thunder Road, a display of classic 1950s and 1960s automobiles. We’ll also have people dressed up in the 50s and 60s attire to set the mood, and we encourage attendees to dress from that time as well. A costume contest will be held before the movie begins too.
Q: When is it and how do we get tickets?
A: It’s scheduled for Thursday, November 10 at 7:00 pm at Rex Theatre. Tickets are on sale now on our website, choralsocietyofpensacola.org.
