The Wide Angle Photo Club (WAPC) will present “Pensacola Through the Camera”, a lecture series about the history of Pensacola and how important photography has been in capturing this history.
The series begins Saturday, November 2, 2024, with lectures starting at 9:00 a.m. Full schedule below:
- On-Site Registration & Breakfast – 8-9 am
- The History of Pensacola – Wesley Odom, 9-10 am
- Pensacola Photographs – Dr. Norm Haines, 10-11 am
- Black History Through the Camera – Dr. Norm Haines, 11 am-12 pm
- Lunch Provided in Adjacent Classroom – 12-1 pm
- Afternoon Emcee – Richard Weaver
- Naval Aviation in Pensacola – Crain Woods, Esq., 1-2 pm
- Pensacola Popluxe: The Rise and Fall of Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Pensacola – Dr. Brian Rucker, 2-3 pm
- The Calendar and Geo-Locations – Christy Draper, 3-4 pm
- The Archives at Voices – Lori McDuffie, 4-5 pm
- Light Painting – Harry Purcell, 5-6 pm
The gallery of images, lectures, hands-on displays, discussion with the presenters and a walking photography session and snacks will be free to the public.
The lecture topics and content are all designed to feature Pensacola’s history, art, and attractions that are part of this great city. We will expand the lectures and modify content to best fit the theme.

Pensacola Through the Camera Event Details
- Friday, Nov. 1, 2024: Awards Ceremony open to all for the winners from the Power of Photography Show. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. All are welcome.
- Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024: Pensacola Through the Camera will be held in the Bowden lecture hall, at Voices of Pensacola starting at 9:00 a.m.
- Where: Voices of Pensacola is located at 117 E Government St, Pensacola, FL 32502 just across the street from Seville Quarter.
- Registration: Click here to register
- On-site registration will be available at the gallery, but this is a first come, first serve, event so pre-registration is encouraged.
- Breakfast and lunch will be served.
The lectures, food and drink are free to the public and is all possible by a grant from the Foo Foo Festival.
