In 1892, thirty-two year old Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Although she was tried and acquitted of the murder, she was always considered guilty and no other suspect was ever named. Lizzie Borden’s trial created much curiosity and has been compared to those of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and OJ Simpson.

Lizzie Borden has become a cult figure in American folklore. Children sing “Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother 40 whacks, when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41” as they jump rope; multiple plays, movies, books, and ballets have been created about her story; and the house where the murders took place has become one of the most popular “Haunted Bed and Breakfasts” in the USA.

Now, LIZZIE:THE MUSICAL is making its debut in Pensacola. PenArts will bring this gothic rock musical to life for an evening filled with kinetic energy, a live band, and a powerful all female cast.
